The International J/24 Class Association and the Port Credit Yacht Club of Mississauga hosted the 2016 North Americans and, in 2017, will host the World Championship for J/24 Class yachts. The J/24 is an international One-Design keelboat class and the most popular racing keelboat in the world with over 5480 boats being sailed in 165 fleets and 110 countries. The international J/24 Class Association is mandated to encourage, promote and develop amateur sailing world wide.
2016 North American Championship September 8th – 11th, 2016
A week long event, with competitors arriving for official measuring and boat required safety checks, 4 days of racing were held on Lake Ontario’s western waterfront. This event is a lead-up to the World Championship in September 2017 at the same venue.
Results – Will Welles’ Cougar Wins
It couldn’t have been any tighter at the top of the leaderboard at the J/24 driveHG.ca North American Championship! After all nine races, Will Welles’ Cougar and Travis Odenbach’s HoneyBadger/Sea Bags Sailing Team were tied at 28 points, with Welles winning the tie-breaker and the Championship. Local PCYC member Rossi Milev on Clear Air placed third with 49 points.
The Masters Trophy went to Chris Stone’s Velocidad. Top female was Natalie Harden’s Giggles. Top Junior was Michael Howarth’s Mr. H. Full results can be found here and the IJCA Fall Newsletter (p.13 & 14) highlights a more lengthy report of the event.

A week long event with competitors arriving for official measurement and boat-required safety checks, 5 days of racing will be held on Lake Ontario’s western waterfront out of PCYC. Eighty-five teams, involving at least 450 top racing yachtsmen and yachtswomen are expected to compete in the challenging ten-race series. All competitors will be provided with meals and entertainment at various events and times.
